Care Requirements:

  • Lighting: Moderate to High. While Goniopora can adapt, this particular "glitter" variety often benefits from moderate to slightly higher light levels to maintain its vibrant coloration and encourage polyp extension. Aim for PAR values between 150-250. Be sure to acclimate slowly to new lighting conditions.

  • Water Flow: Moderate. Provide gentle to moderate, indirect water flow. Too strong or direct flow can prevent polyps from fully extending and may damage them. Random, turbulent flow is ideal to deliver nutrients and remove waste.

  • Water Parameters: Stable and pristine conditions are crucial for Goniopora.

     

    • Temperature: 72-78°F (22-26°C)

    • Salinity: 1.024-1.026 specific gravity

    • Alkalinity: 8-10 dKH

    • Calcium: 400-450 ppm

    • Magnesium: 1300-140 ppm

      Nitrate: <10 ppm

    • Phosphate: <0.05 ppm

  • Feeding: Goniopora are primarily filter feeders and benefit significantly from regular target feeding. Offer fine particulate foods such as phytoplankton, zooplankton, coral-specific foods, and amino acids 2-3 times per week, especially after lights out when polyps are fully extended.

     

  • Placement: Place the UC Red Glitter Goniopora on a stable rockwork structure in an area with appropriate light and flow. Ensure there is enough space around it as its polyps can extend considerably, potentially stinging neighboring corals.
